We are
partners with the
California Dollars for Scholars Central Valley Project.
Dollars for
Scholars is a national network of community-based,
volunteer-led, nonprofit scholarship groups which provide
academic support and financial aid to local students.
Simply put, Dollars for Scholars is time-tested
vehicle for maximizing the benefits of and managing either a
new or an existing scholarship program.
The Dollars for Scholars movement began in 1958 in Fall
River, Mass., when Dr. Irving Fradkin, a local optometrist,
proposed that if every person in town gave just $1, the
community would create a sizeable scholarship fund for its
students.
The idea quickly spread, and today, Dollars for
Scholars is the flagship programs of Scholarship
America, whose scholarship programs to date have awarded
more than $911 million to nearly 850,000 students.
The first California Dollars for Scholars community-based
chapters were founded over 20 years ago. Today there are
Dollars for Scholars chapters throughout the state, and the
number is growing.
Dollars for Scholars scholarship recipients have access
to a national network of Collegiate Partner colleges and
universities which pledge to maximize the value of our
chapters' scholarships.
Dollars for Scholars is growing and vital national
citizens' movement for education. More than just money, it
provides hope for the future for young people and
communities all across America.
